How to Write A Compelling Home Offer Letter

When you're looking to buy a house, one of the most important steps is making an offer to the seller. Because sellers receive a lot of purchase requests for their property, it is sometimes useful to write a personal letter to accompany your official paperwork. Your message to the seller will explain why you want to buy the home and how you intend to pay for the house including the mortgage details and anticipated closing date. Writing a personal letter won't cost you a penny; it only requires your time and thoughtfulness. Read on for some useful tips on how to write a convincing personal note that will make a difference in your home purchase offer:

- You can type your message as long as you sign it by yourself. It will make it look professional and clean. If you have beautiful, legible handwriting, you can also write the letter.

- Ensure you check your grammar and spellings. A good letter must be correct in its expressions to give the seller the best impression about you. Proper spelling also ensures that you don't upset any seller who may have a dislike for wrong spellings.

- Make sure the length of your letter does not exceed one page. Writing more than a page could be ineffective as it becomes less compelling.

- Address the letter to the seller by the first name. Doing so will allow the seller to connect with your note immediately. It also personalizes the message and lets the seller know that it is not a copy-paste job sent to many people.

- Share something about yourself. Talk about yourself so that the seller can relate to you and your plans. You can mention your family, reasons for buying the home, where you are moving from and other facts. Do not talk about remodeling plans.

- Relay to the owner that you are keen to move forward immediately while respecting their privacy and timeline.

- Restate to the seller that your interest in their home is definite and for the long-term. Giving the seller such assurance will create a sense of security as well as giving him/her the confidence to choose you.

- Mention two or more features that you appreciate about the house and tell the owner why they are important to you. This helps the seller to see why you want the house.

- End your letter by thanking the seller for their interest and wish them good luck with their next plan. Give your message to your real estate agent to attach it to your offer.
